I used to hate cleaning the commutator and insulation layer between each copper strip. then doing the electrical check on each comm.

I had no idea, I've been following the story for a while and hadn't seen any updates, and now I know why. Very sad, it was such a great story, man against time, and man lost. Goodnight old girl.

I just saw on a news channel (FOX40 NEWS) that this poor old girl has sunk. Sadly, in my opinion, she should now be scrapped ASAP as the hull this is already compromised will quickly rot from the inside out if she were to be raised.

When looking for a leak put a drop of food coloring in the water and you can see it drift to the hole .

If was me, I’d put Aurora in dry dock. To. Risky to be in water with a lot of unknowns.

I notice the restoration is not using phosphoric acid rust fixer before priming. Is there a reason for that?

IMHO….This ship should be in dry dock to access total shape of her hull…

Wow you suck Aurora

I applaud what you have done, but just wonder if you have ever investigated the integrity of the hull itself, especially in the area where the underwater hull meets the above water hull. If you are going to have problems then this is where the crucial problems will occur. If the upper works are all smart and shiny counts for nothing If you do not give priority to the area which is most important (and most difficult, and probably most expensive) to maintain. By all means carry out cosmetic maintenance, but please sort out your long term priorities.

Someone has sabotaged the Aurora, it sank at its mooring yesterday.

I dropped by one day to offer my services as a builder contractor and left a note which never got a response.

It's tragic what happened to her.

I reminds me of MS Finnmarken, which was also built by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, a year later in 1956. It was a important costal express ship going all along the Norwegian coast. It is now a museum ship- entirely above water- in Stokmarknes Norway.

Where does one get the money for this ?

Too bad the Aurora is sinking. The tug has sunk next to it.
